While exploring Saku City in Nagano Prefecture, I visited the Old Nakagomi School. 🏫✨
The exterior of this historic building immediately caught my attention. Its beautiful Western-style architecture gives the building a unique atmosphere, and it offers a glimpse into a period of Japanese history when Western culture and architectural ideas were being introduced to Japan.
The Old Nakagomi School is of the historic landmarks of Saku City. Looking at the building, you can imagine how people in Japan at that time were interested in new ideas, education, and the cultures of the wider world.
Karuizawa is famous around the world for its beautiful nature, resorts, and elegant atmosphere. But if you travel a little farther to Saku City, you can discover a different side of Shinshu—local history, traditional communities, interesting architecture, and everyday Japanese life.
This is of the reasons I recommend visiting Saku City when you come to Karuizawa.
There are many places in the Toshin area that may not appear on the typical tourist itinerary, but they offer an opportunity to experience a more authentic side of Japan.
If you are visiting Karuizawa, why not take some time to explore Saku City as well?

旧中込学校は、佐久市を代表する歴史的な建築物のひとつです。
